  When and how did the GB start cracking down on the dubs social life?

  i can remember when i was first assimilated, the jw's did alot together, they went to the park together, they had picnics, days out together.. .

  somehow by the 90's this had stopped.

  did i miss somthing?

  It's not just the picnics and get-togethers either that they clamped down on.

  I remember when my kids were born , the sister would get together and arrange meals for a week or so. Or if someone was sick we would do this too.

  It was a sister organized act of love that we did on our own. It made us feel good to give. Or feel loved if we were on the recieving end.

  I've been inactive for quiet awhile now. While visiting a sister that is an elder's wife, who had just had a major surgery, I over heard a conversation that it is now the rule that sisters cant arrange meals for anyone, unless they get approval from the elders. One of the sisters talking was so freaked out beacasue she had been counseled recently for arranging an unauthorized organized dinner drop.

  Very sad. Not only do they over control the fun social part of being around the 'Friends', but they control the simple act of giving.

  Are You The Type Of Person That Really "Loves" People On This Site?

  i know some here seem to truly be interested in everyone's welfare.

  they seem to be really troubled/happy by another poster's health, life, children, job, sex life, worries, anxieties---you name it, they're very involved in "caring" about people that they hardly know.. i have forged some friendships, i've met some great people on this site.

  i've communicated with many nice people here.

  There are a few people like Fipper, and his lovely wife, that keep me from saying 'No'

  I havent met them , but they have both listened to me when I needed it.

  Their geniune concern shines through cyber space and the phone, like a Nothern Star.

  Other than that, it's not 'real' until you meet someone, and spend some time with them.

  That was been my experiance anyways.

  magazine supply reduction

  at the meeting tonight was read a letter to all congregations in canada.

  it explained that since most publishers end up with left-over public edition magazines that didn't get placed at the end of each month, they will now no longer continue to have an individual magazine order per publisher.

  instead, the entire congregation's supply of service edition magazines will be in a stack at the back of the kh, and they are to be taken according to need, with whatever is left over after service to be put back in the stack.

  It seems that there are many more track campains.

  During the campain, the placement of the magazines would decline to maybe just R.V. s.

  Tracks are much cheaper. With all the hype, excitment and pressure, it would make for a better way of getting the tired R and F out more. Plus, you dont feel like its such a waste of time, becasue at least you are leaving something at every door.

  They must know this. It's all by design, I think.

  I just saw a comercial for Led Zeppelin fans.

  It was for Orchard Supply and Hardware [u.s.].

  A guy talking about enjoying grilling to music, espically Zeps Dazed and Confused.

  Just make sure to time your grilling to the studio recording and not the live Song Remains The Same version ....lol....

  English-language congregations in non-English speaking countries

  i am under the impression that english-language congregations outside of the united states must serve a purpose, other than just being the place where the missionaries can hang out and catch the occasional english speaker.

  i think it's also a way to find the smarter guys in other countries and teach them the language and the jargon they will need if they ever climb up the watchtower corporate ladder.. what do people think?.

  I've seen this happen and it happened fast.

  It can be a fast track for a not so respected or used brother to move up.

  From the US, move to an area were they like Americans. A beautiful area were your money goes far.

  Boom, next thing you know you're a loved and respected Cordinator, giving Memorial Talks and walking down the isle with a beautiful sister over half your age.

  Not a bad retirement gig. LOL

  how is this done, without one's doctor's authorization?

  Hello CoCo

  Check out costco/sams club. I had a percription that was over 80.00 at rite aid, costco 12.00.

  You can call their pharm and get the price before driving out there.

  You do not need to be a member either. Just walk right to the phamacy , no problems.

  [you can buy wine,etc. there with out a card too. but they give you an escort]

  I've heard some cautionary tales on tv [60 mon. or 20/20, I forgot] about online phamacies. From counterfiet to non effective drugs from China.

  Be careful.

  Did you ever shun someone close? How did you feel?

  how does a jw feel when he "has" to shun someone he likes/loves?.

  during the time i was in, i shunned people.

  but as i didn't like them, it was no problem.. but now, i'm trying to understand how my family might really feel.. (i presume here, of course, that they do "like/love me".).

  I had a a sibling DFed. I kept in contact with 'them' over the phone.

  Someone else in the family found out, and told the elders. This kept 'them' from being reinstated an extra 6 months.

  Ouch! I was told it was all my fault by family memeber.

  I followed the rules in this situation after that.

  Later in life it came up with my closest friend. I was somewhat inactive by then. Our friendship didnt change, other than I hid it.

  She had no plans on coming back. But I didnt want to get axed over it.

  It's sad what the shunning policy makes us feel obligated to do.

  one book i read, the mists of avalon, was very important to me.

  among the main characters was merlin, who in the book, was called "taliesen".

  Ah, The Mists of Avalon. One of my all time favorite books. When I started to question Christainty , my close friend gave me a copy and said . I' think youre ready for this now'. I named my Cat after one of the charecters in the book.

  My name is also from another favorite books and author. Eva Luna by Isabel Allende. I liked the charecter becasue, she liked to tell stories.

  Nice topic Talesin. I've enjoyed reading all the responces.

  This is a little freaky.......

  this morning, my son texted me :.

  "i had the most real, intense dream about great grampa xxxxx last night.

  we were talking, laughing, making jokes.

  That is an interesting and comforting shared dream Palmtree.

  I remember being told we dont dream in color, well the vivd dreams seem to be in color to me.

  I had a simular one too.

  I felt someone sit on my bed in the middle of the night, my old reaction would be "oh My! Demons'.

  But, I reminded my self, I dont believe in that any more, so I just ignored it and went back to sleep.

  In what seemed like a short time, I felt some one sit on my bed again, so unafraid, I looked up.

  It was my Brother, he said everything was all right, not to worry about him, or be sad any more.

  He had recently died. I had felt it was my duty to keep his memorie alive. Keeping his personal belongings, listening to his music.

  Kind of made a shrine for him.

  The dream made me realize I needed to let go of this perpetual mourning. I was able to donate his things. accept for the music of couse...:-)

  and feel comfortated by this dream visit.
